My New Scope

Been working on this for a long time .... My new telescope, I've designed and built it. I'm very pleased with it so far. I've a long way to go with testing it properly but the first light image shows pin stars with beautiful knife edge diffraction spikes. I've got to do a slight adjustment to the corrector to pull back the stars at the edge of the field....this is nothing unexpected and is all part of the set up procedure on this type of scope. Once its set it wont need to be touched again.
The scope design is a 10inch Modified Dall-Kirham F/6.8 CNC machined components. Main components are powder coated with a few other anodised bits. Optical configuration is a ellipsoid primary, spherical secondary and a doublet corrector.
No collimating tools needed. I collimated it on a defocused star.....real simple
thanks for looking

Very nice Peter. We do have some clever people in Astro-imaging.

You deserve to get to this point Peter, you've put a lot of hard graft into this. I shall continue to follow it's progress with interest.

Is this based on the ODK10 then Peter?

This has the same optical specs as the ODK which are made for me by Orion Optics UK. I designed the OTA for stability. It has an over sized wedged truss assembly to minimise flexure. So physically it looks shorter than you would expect. Its very difficult to see from this picture but I will do some photographs of it that will show its construction. The plan is to get them set up image ready so the end user looses less hair....been there and done that!!. :rage: Understanding the needs of the imager will allow me to give the after service needed for this type of telescope.......The idea behind this was to build something that I would like to own myself so if I don't sell any I've got a great telescope for my Observatory...win win!!

It looks great Peter.... I was a huge fan of the ODK but sadly didn't suit me for two reasons, the major being the open tube design as I have zero ability to be able to clean the mirrors and they were starting to look dirty..... can you make a closed version?

Looks like a beautiful piece of machinery.
