RS232 Serial Adapter Card

Folowing on from my last post in the deep sky section, I've now fitted a new HD disk to my laptop and reinstalled Win 7 64 Bit Professional edition. The one glitch is with the serial card which I use for the SPC900NC in LX mode. The card is a StarTech 1 port native express card, which originally work fine. Now the computer won't recognise the drivers downloaded from the manufaturer's web site, although they claim to be 32 and 64 Bit compatible. It's a long shot I know, but I just wondered if anyone used this card and knew how to get the drivers to install.

Is this a PCMCIA serial card Roy, or on board serial port ?

Keith,

It's a PCMCIA card (RS232 serial adapter card), but I've managed to solve the problem. As I suspected it was the lack of a Win 7 compatible driver for the original card, but since buying a new card I'm back in business. Windows recognised it immediately and installed the correct driver from its own driver database - no need to use the drivers supplied with the card or search for Dell divers. Why the original driver worked with Win 7 when installed as a Vista upgrade, but not with a clean Win 7 install, is a mystery. I can only surmise that the upgrade left in place legacy drivers that were compatible.

Thanks for the response,

Roy
