Hello from England

Postby bimbo » Sun Jul 14, 2019 1:47 pm

Hello to all.
I joined this forum a couple of days ago, but have only just found time to introduce myself.

My name is Vincent and i am from Newark in Nottinghamshire. I am only an amature astronomist. I did have a Tasco refractor in the late 70's and liked to go outside in the evenings with it. It was only a 50mm, but i had some great fun using it. Due to working away a great deal of the time, i only had a very minimal amount of time at the hobby.

My wife recently purchased an Orion 6i intelliscope for me, as i am now retired. She knew that i wanted to get back into the hobby and surprised me with this present a couple of weeks ago.

I do not expect to get some great visuals from the telescope, as i live in a light poluted area and with no transport, i will not be able to travel to a darker seeing area. What ever i get to see will still amaze me.

I have two other telescopes, that are in one of my sheds. The biggest one is quite a beast, that my late freind Ken Dier had built for himself, in the 80's. Sadly he passed away in his late fifty's and did not get a great deal of use out of it. The reason the telescope has been in the shed so long, is because there are no eye peices with it. Ken's wife Mary gave that telescope to me along with a Tasco, also without eye peices or tripod. They are bothe reflectors. The big scope has i beleive a mirror of 6 to 10 inches, as i have not measured it. The Tasco has a 4 inch mirror i beleive and EQ mounts.

Now that i have 8 eye peices, i will eventualy get them both out of the shed and test them out.

Thank you for allowing me to be part of this forum and i hope to learn as much as i can here.

Regards
Vince
