Just registered from murky sky's in London suburbs

Hi All,

As a lad (a long time ago) I was always interested in Astronomy, but I guess life, to some extent just got in the way. Since I retired two years ago I have embarked on a project to build a telescope and try to do some astrophotography. I've built a 250mm f5 reflecting scope (just about portable) and mount. The scope was relatively straight forward, it was the mount that presented all the problems. Firstly I built a conventional equitorial mount, but soon realise, with the engineering available to me that it was never going to be able to steadily hold the weight. I started again with a Dodsonian style mount on an equatorial platform, which works reasonably well. It is driven in the declination and right ascension axes by a Raspberry Pi computer controlling two bipolar stepper motors.

I've used the scope and have taken some back garden pictures with mixed success. Astrophotography and telescope optics are huge fields in which I lack experience and knowledge, hence joining the forum.

I'm not completely satisfied with the scope optic performance and welcome input from those here more knowledgeable.

Can you recommend the best forum to post on

John
