Bins and spectacle wearers

Postby cheviot4 » Tue Feb 25, 2014 11:10 am

My eyes require very slight correction for long distance and I tend ( sometimes) not to bother with my spectacles. This includes using my bins and I had hitherto been under the impression that bringing the bins into focus would compensate for the correction to my vision. In other words the bin focals replace my spectacles. I did some tests and find that my assumption is absolutely wrong, although I don't know why. Wearing spectactles, the bin image is sharper but at the cost of some loss to the field of view.....from 5% down to something like 3%. I am OK with this : just means that sky sweeps and searches have to be a bit more precise.
