Solving Inward Focus on SW 130p

I am fairly new to astronomy and love to photograph the night sky. I also was given a Sky Watcher 130p as a present .

The problem which is well known is the limited inward focus which prevents prime focus photography with most DLSR’s.

The solution was to saw off the unnessary part of the focuser leaving only the essential length for the rack and pinion. This gives you an extra 5-10 mm focus which still wasn’t enough to be able to focus my Cannon 40D. I then removed the eye piece holder to reveal a 40 mm thread on the silver part of the focus tube....... if only there was an adaptor to convert 40 mm to M42.....ebay to the rescue.......

This is the link to the RISE (UK) 42mm - 40 mm adaptor:

Using this combination of hacks I am able to easily focus my scope when my DLSR is attached, in fact I still have 5 mm of inward focus spare!

If you are wondering why one focus wheel is missing; it is because the other wheel was replaced with a cheap stepper motor connected to an arduino to have remote fine focus to stop camera shake. I need to chop the bracket to allow the greater inward focus. If anyone would like details of this I can post more information.
