Now that you have the mount 'in' have you tried alignmaster to check it? I know a couple with piers have run an alignmaster and it's just verified that all was spot on, yours is the first time I've heard of someone struggling with it Malc.

I have just bought a new HEQ5 Pro mount, and a 6" f/8 refractor with semi apo filter, and hoping for good things with a mount I can rely on. After watching this video by Dion, I am certain that my Polar alignment will now become a few simple steps to achieve perfection. Never been able to get close enough before now! Thanks Dion. :shedpwr:

Ive just bought Alignmaster and installed it...

After watching the tutorial, am i right in thinking this is how to do it??

First off, setup and balance in the normal way and ensure that through my polarscope i can see polaris and get it in the center of the reticule...no messing about with the ring and little ball (technical i know!ha!) and then make sure my scope is in the home position.

Then, just fire up Alignmaster and follow the tutorial...seems abit too easy!

Would i be best to do a synscan alignment 1st...2/3 star, then do the above? Or will alignmaster be good enough on its own?

I really hope this program does what i think it does...
Am i right in thinking this program can be used for people with a mount that doesnt even have a polarscope?...i.e all of the alignment is done using my telescope on the mount.

Does this mean i can do an accurate polar alignment without having to even see polaris?

How do i change "that" setting in EQMOD?

Cheers...hope ive explained myself alright, im still really new to all of this!

That setting in EQMOD is on the main eqmod screen if you click the little spanner thing to expand it, see where it says "append on sync" in a little dropdown, click the arrow and the other option is 'dialog mode'

Yes it really is that easy ;)

Cheers Dion...

Cant believe all i really have to do is find north, do a basic polaris line up then run the program! Cracking find pal!

I dont suppose youve done any EQMOD tutorial videos from basically installing the software to best setup have you?
Ive seen the ones on youtube but find them bit hard to follow...i seem to understand it more when you explain!ha!

Could be one for the future, it usually runs very easily, the most common hitch is the stellarium ini file issue which is documented on a thread or two in here. if you have any issues just post it, we'll soon get you up and running.

Dion; You, my new friend, are a Godsend! I only hope to live long enough to get through most, if not all, of your tutorials. So far, you have given me the desire to think seriously about astrophotography! It was a subject I never thought I'd be interested in. I'm somewhat of a motor head, and LOVE gadgetry; although I'm not very computer literate as yet, hopefully with your tutelage, that will change. For now, I will be somewhat busy watching more of your excellent work. Once again, thanks for helping us "newbies" with this great 'sport'! Jeff

I agree totally. But keep an eye on your wallet. Every time I watch a Dion video I spend some more. Good fun though. ;) ;) :))

Hi,
Trying to understand the workflow of this. Do you have to align the scope to the sky *BEFORE* using alignmaster? I assume so? So.
1. Polar align normally with PolarScope.
2. Align the scope to the sky.
3. Run through the Alignmaster software.
4. Possibly align scope to sky again (because the Polar alignment changed slightly?).

Thanks, Steve

No,

1 then 3 then 4 although 4 isn't always necessary as technically you've aligned the two stars you used with alignmaster.
