Used Alignmaster on my HEQ5 last night and it came in like a dream using the reticule feature on my capture program Several go tos in stellarium seems good after I star aligned. But a funny thing happened when I parked the mount in the home position at the end if the night.l My pen marks on the mount were good but the scope indicator on stellarium was way off Polaris. I couldn't check the webcam at that point as the cloud cover was total but it was odd that Stellarium was out as much. Ill check the settings to make sure I have the correct coordinates in both

Hi, Ive just got myself a heq5 pro mount, after using an alt amz mount.Am I correct in thinking that if I use alignmaster then I dont need to use the polarscope on the mount? So if I roughly polar align the scope, then run Alignmaster, then perform a 3 star alignment with the synscan, would this give me good enough alignment to try some unguided imaging? If this would be ok then it seem far simpler than using the polar scope, or am I missing something? I wouldn't be supprised if i am :notaclue: thanks Stuart

You'd be making it very difficult for alignmaster as it likes you to do a half decent polar align first, however the latest firmware for the synscan handset has a pretty decent polar align feature added, have a search on the forums for the info.

I've used alignmaster with pretty good results.
After getting polar alignment with alignmaster and 2 start alignment, my ieq45 would report similiar polar alignment accuracy as alignmaster.
Gotos would be okay (at least at the start of the session).
Lately, I'd do the same and get good alignment according to aligmaster, but the ieq45 would report horrible alignment. Sometimes 8-16 degrees off and my gotos would be horrible.
I'm doing the same thing I've always done. Any ideas?

Dion,

I have been trying to use alignmaster with my Meade LX200 and have had no success. I have done a series of posts on my issues with alignmaster. I dont know how to let lead you to them, but if you search under my post handle (cfosterstars) you should find them. Basically there seems to be a theme with situations where the ALT/AZ adjustment would require both adjusted at the same time to center the star. I have been e-mailing Matthias and he has said that this is from not matching the time correctly. I have not yet been able to test it due to weather. I will get back to you when I finally figure it out. I really want it to work since it seems a perfect answer. Wish me luck.
