First off I'd just like to say how great your videos are, I've learned loads watching them, so thanks and keep up the good work :-) I was wondering if the mods you go through in this video would work with a ST 102? Also are you selling the focus motor control mod you show in another video?

Cheers

Dave.

Hi and thanks, yes, the same mods work on the ST102 as well. Regarding the focus controller, I have I think 4 left, drop me a PM.

Help needed please.
I guess the ST102 can be tweaked in much the same way as the ST80 but scuppered at the 1st hurdle.
How do you release lens collar? I can see there are 2 vv small holes in collar but can't see how it's held in.

remove the dew shield thing, then the whole plastic lens element part screws out of the tube. Then, the plastic lens element carriers just unscrew.

I stripped my ST102 the other night and it comes apart a little differently to the ST80. Take the dew shield off then unscrew the front lens carrier, thats the front white bit or black depending on it's age and on mine it's all metal. Then you want to put it lens up on something grippy, I used a spongey mouse mat and put something in both the little holes on the lens ring, I used a couple of pen tips as I didn't want to go through the holes too far. Turn them so it loosens the ring and unscrew it out. Then there is a spacer rind to come out, then a rubber seal. Do like Dion did in the video and turn the carrier upside down and let the 2 lenses drop onto a lens cloth. there is a spacer ring between the 2 lenses that looks delicate so don't damage that! Hope that helps a bit :-)

Oh I do love it when the student becomes the teacher, it's like having kids growing up ;) It's one of the things that makes me so proud of this place.

The ED80 is more or less the same but with metal instead of plastic. What I did was take a piece of wood drill 2 holes to match those on the lens ring then hammer in 2 nails (not whilst resting on the lens please) so the points protrude about 5mm. Place the nail points in the holes of the lens cell then just twist anticlockwise to loosen. Similar to the tool watch repairers use to get the back off of screw on backs of watches.
