DIY Tracking/Goto Controller for EQMOD

Need to know about how to work that new mount or scope? Got tips on how to make it easier?

DIY Tracking/Goto Controller for EQMOD

Postby TCWORLD » Thu Jan 19, 2012 11:15 pm

Evening all.
I have just started work on trying to create a DIY alternative to SyncScan that works with the EQMOD api for ASCOM. I have been doing alot of google crawling to get me started and have come across the elusive protcol that is used by the SyncScan EQ5/6 mounts.

However, I have hit a snag. I know what is sent by EQMOD and why. I also know the format of the responses required. But that is where the trail goes cold. Some of the commands require responses that are specific to the mount, and there is no information as to what the response should be.

Sooo, is there anyone out there with an EQ5 SyncScan mount, that has hooked it up to a computer?
If there is, could you please raise your hand, as you will be able to find out for me what I need.

As an incentive, if I can make this work, it will be entirely open source, and a nice cheap alternative to the very expensive SyncScan upgrade. As far as I can tell, EQMOD can do everything that SyncScan does and then some. The only problem is it requires the motor control board that comes with the SyncScan controller, which is what I am trying to create a DIY compatible version of.

Thanks,

Tom :)
