First light double stack....

For those who can't decide if there's not enough day, or not enough night!

*** WARNING ***

Do not EVER look directly at the Sun through a telescope or in any other way, unless you have the proper filters and have been educated in their proper use. This can cause INSTANT eye damage, and remember, you only get ONE pair of eyes!

First light double stack....

I managed a quick first light this morning. Conditions were not ideal. As you know the sun is so low now, particularly where I am in the far north of Scotland! There was quite a bit of hazy cloud too and the view through the PST left a lot to be desired - it took me a while to focus and tune on what little detail I could make out.

Then I screwed in the SM40 and turned the ring. And I'm pleased to report that about half way the details jumped out! Clearly a huge difference in detail and a wonderful 3D effect! I was also impressed by the appearence of a large eastern prominence which I had difficulty seeing with the PST alone. I thought that the narrower bandpass would perhaps be less good for the proms, so I was pleasantly surprised.:)

Also I didn't see any evidence of a secondary image (this is normal with the double stack and can be tuned out of the field of view), but this may have been because the sun's brightness was being reduced by the cloud. Really dying to try it out for imaging, but this isn't really going to reveal its full potential till the sun climbs higher in the new year.
