Hi all, Dion you may want to consider making this a sticky

When imaging and posting DSOs it would be helpful if people will include the Messier or NGC designation as well as the "common" name. Not all planetarium software can search using the common name.

Just a thought

I personally don't like 'common' names, much rather M83 to be called M83 than whirlpool, or southern whirlpool or what ever else it can be called. Much less confusion.

Well, I guess the simple answer would be that members could give the Messier or NGC number plus the common name........that way both preferences are satisfied.
