Not sure if this counts as a tutorial, but I gave a demo / workshop to our local Astro Soc on a 'beginners' approach to removing light pollution from an astro image.
Based on a tripod mounted 10s image, it uses Paint.net software (most suitable for absolute beginners as it has an easy learning curve and is free, so no investment needed). The same basic principle can be applied by users of other software
I'd appreciate feedback.

nice work! I think its useful information since there is so much talk on PS and others with various techniques, filters, plugins etc that its easy to loose the basic concept that you showed very effectively with very straightforward software.
thanks for sharing it, for me was useful to review since I have been diddling with histograms and other settings but not removed the sky in that way yet, and it will help on couple of my images at least to go back and try this
